Prestigious hand-painted icon depicting Saint John il Precursore.
The large nimbus surrounds John's face, framed by the hair parted on the shoulders by the flowing beard.
John has in his hands the scroll and a codex with a small naked and blessing Christ, a suggestive image of the Eucharistic bread (amnos) according to the same words of the Baptist at the Jordan: "Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world".
On his camel hair tunic John wears a green himation, symbol of his participation in divine life.
