These cards were designed to help children easily learn the Arbëreshë language, and are also very useful for adults who want to learn this language.
These are two decks of laminated cards. One deck consists of 50 red-backed cards printed with 50 commonly used words. The other deck consists of 50 blue-backed cards printed with child-friendly drawings that correspond to the words.
The game is very simple and engaging. All the cards are shuffled and placed on a table, exposing the red or blue ones. You begin by revealing a red card and then a blue one, looking for the corresponding picture. For example, if you reveal a card with the word "cat," you must look for the corresponding picture. If you don't find it, you pass the game to another player who then tries again.
This game is particularly interesting because, in addition to helping learn the language and correct pronunciation, facilitated by the help of someone who knows the pronunciation of the words, it stimulates memory, including visual memory.
The cards were created by linguist Martin di Maggio, originally from Santa Cristina Gela (PA), but raised in the United Kingdom, where he continues to speak Arbëresh.
