church of San Vito (16th century)
Originally of the Greek rite, the church, built after 1500, was sold to the faithful of the Latin rite in 1590. Rich in friezes, altars inlaid in polychrome marble, it is an example of late Baroque art. At the top of the splendid baroque staircase there is the eighteenth-century portal, with two marble statues on the sides depicting the SS. Pietro and Paolo and in the upper part two putti that dominate the columns. In the central part of the portal you can admire a medallion and at the top a niche that contains the statue of the Immaculate Conception. The church has three naves with an apse and a side chapel. Inside there are important works of art: the statue of the Immaculate Conception (carved in limestone, stuccoed and inlaid in gold), placed on the central altar of marble in Baroque style; the statue of S. Vito martyr (first half of the 16th century), also in stuccoed limestone and covered with gold, placed in the chapel of the left aisle. The Saint is represented with two dogs, the palm of martyrdom and the cross. Precious is the baptismal font in white marble.
