This work by photographer Alessandro Ferrantelli reproduces the Brezi, the solid silver belt, part of a precious and rare traditional female costume of Piana degli Albanesi, richly embroidered in gold by the hands of expert local embroiderers in the first half of the 19th century.

The Brezi is traditionally given to one's woman on the day of the engagement as it represents the lineage that must renew itself and continue.

This very important belt is composed of nine finely worked plates and an imposing very elaborate central boss, characterized by the figure of St. George Megalomartyr, patron saint of Piana degli Albanesi. The saint is represented while killing the dragon with his spear. The shape of the central buckle has an almost rectangular shape and in the upper part ends with a crown supported by two putti.

The Brezi, which undoubtedly represents the most important element of the traditional female costume, rests on a bow, consisting of four slightly overlapping rectangular-shaped green silk strips and joined together by a green satin ribbon. Each strip is finely embroidered in gold with floral motifs.

The traditional female costume of Piana degli Albanesi represents one of the identities of the Arberëshë culture, the Greek-Albanian colonies founded in Italy in the 15th century. The traditional costume is handed down from generation to generation. Today a very small number of embroiderers resist who still dedicate themselves to keeping this tradition alive, even if today the embroideries are simpler and less rich.

Photographer Alessandro Ferrantelli, who has always been very sensitive to the enhancement of the Arberëshë culture, wanted to create this limited and numbered series of Fine Arts exclusively for visitpiana.com to actively contribute to the defense and identity of this culture that is in danger of disappearing.

It is possible to choose between two versions of this work, one without borders and one mounted on an opaque black support with beveled edges that acts as a passpartout with a frame of 5 cm per side. A non-visible thickness is applied between the Fine Art and this support which serves to give further depth and three-dimensionality to the work.

This work, in both versions, is suitable to be inserted in any context such as, for example, private homes, museums, shops.

This Fine Art was made with the most advanced numerical control printing technique on an acrylic glass support with very high transparency and a thickness of 1 cm. Sophisticated color profiling is used for each medium and each photographic job to ensure a perfect match with the original colors.

Our Fine Arts are limited and numbered editions, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and ownership. The shipment is made with special and high protection packaging.
