Service Description
A unique experience to discover the Serre della Pizzuta Oriented Nature Reserve in Piana degli Albanesi, just outside Palermo, one of the most beautiful reserves in Sicily. The reserve takes its name from the Pizzuta peak which with its 1,333 m. above sea level. dominates its extension of 414 hectares. The protagonist will be the Garrone path, which is part of the CAI's Sentiero Italia system. The Garrone path touches the important Trazzera Regia and winds along a fascinating route that includes the Vallone delle Neviere and various refuges including that of Norina. The panorama is very suggestive and dominates both the valley over which Piana degli Albanesi extends and the part overlooking Monreale. The R.N.O. Serre della Pizzuta offers an unmissable experience to those who follow its paths, because in addition to the suggestive panorama, it boasts an extraordinary wealth of endemic flora which in addition to the cervine tongue is characterized by an endangered fern which is the hemionitis scolopendria (Phyllitis sagittata). . Another endemic species is the Ukrainian Violet and many varieties of orchids and crocuses. The fauna is no less rich and varied and offers lucky visitors the observation of martens and wild cats, which prefer the evening hours. The sky of the reserve is dominated by golden eagles, peregrine falcons and buzzards.
